Copyright all your material Correctly filing for copyright protection is just as important as designing your works.  Copyright law can protect the owner from possible infringement, and unauthorized use of his or her design, music, innovation, or idea.  This is important in business, and one of the single most intricate reasons entrepreneurs gain long term credit/equity.

File for proper Trademark ownership Trademark ownership can be filed at the US Department of Trademark and Patents Office.  Trademarks, just like Copyrights, can be filed at your local state’s registrars office, but should also be prepared on a federal level at the US Department of Trademarks and Patents.  When filed at the federal, or national, level, your trademark is established and protected against infringement on the global scale.

What is Patentable, and what is NOT Patents can also be filed at the US Department of Trademarks and Patents.  Some ideas, processes, and creations are patentable, and some are not permitted for patent ownership; by law.  This is a huge debate, especially in the scientific research industry.  Many inventors have found great disappointment as they finally complete cures, and other forms of scientific advances, just to find out that they will never receive credit for their patents, or inventions.  The federal government restricts certain ideas, or inventions, from having private patent ownership.  This does not mean that your invention can not be done in a controlled environment.  It simply means you may not receive long- term rewards for your hard work.  In turn, the government, and their funding organizations, will most likely share patent ownership when your creation falls within the sensitive barriers of ‘what is patentable, and what is NOT.’  This rule generally applies to patents that contain security risks to the public, or even designs that modify the human body.  Other creations are permissible under normal circumstances.
